UK 'one of best for IT training'

The UK is a leading country with regard to IT skills training and development according to new reports, highlighting the high level of IT training currently available.

In its latest bulletin e-skills UK reports that IT training provision in the UK is higher than in most other European countries, with roughly a quarter of IT professionals in the UK having receives training in recent months. At 26 per cent, this is notably higher than the European average of 15 per cent.

This suggests that the UK's IT skills sector in on track to enjoy positive growth ahead which would in turn contribute to UK business retaining a competitive edge with regard to IT.

Indeed, throughout the European Union there are nearly five million professional IT workers, representing some three per cent of the workforce at large. Research also found that on average, skills levels in IT are higher than in other professions, indicative of the competitive nature of IT working.

Karen Price, chief executive at e-skills UK, welcomes these reports of the UK being one of the leading nations for IT training but warns that further development is necessary.

"It is vital that we do not become complacent," she comments. "Our IT professionals are essential to the UK's economic prosperity in a rapidly changing global knowledge economy."

Ms Price continues to argue that IT skills will increasingly become a benchmark by which IT competitiveness is judged.

Despite these reports concerns continue to be voiced over a skills gap within the UK, with London and the south east home to the majority of technology jobs.
